4-Way Barber Shop owner Maceo Strickland, 85, sits in his barber chair for a portrait Friday afternoon at his shop on the corner of Preston and Pinehurst Streets. Started by his father Joseph Strickland in 1953, Maceo has been cutting hair for 60 years. "Cutting hair is what I love. I went to barber school so I could do what I love," said Strickland.
Alan Trimble pauses and looks down Fielden Street while cleaning up a rental property he owns Tuesday afternoon. Trimble was born in his parents home in Quintman, Texas in 1935. Later in life, Trimble's father Roy told him the story of his home birth. "My father asked the doctor how much do I owe you for the birthing and the doctor after much contemplation said $20. My father questioned the low price and asked if he had charged for the circumcision, then the doctor changed the bill to $22.50, said Trimble.
